Just before the start of the hunting season, the forest will grow quiet. The Michigan DNR reminded hunters on Thursday before the deer firearm season starts next Friday, that the state respects a five-day quiet period from November 10th to the 14th. During the five days, unless hunting small game waterfowl or fur harvesting, it is unlawful to transport or possess a rifle or shogun with buckshot, slug, ball load, or cut shell in deer-populated areas. Unloaded firearms securely carried in the trunk of a vehicle may be transported to or from hunting camps. DNR Law Enforcement Division capt Pete Wright says hunters know the five-day time frame creates a sense of calm in the woods ahead of the season’s start and allows them to make preparations before traveling to camp.
