More than 40 local artists create artwork celebrating Finnish heritage and Hekinpaiva. On Saturday during Heikinpaiva in Hancock, the Copper Country Community Arts Center will open its gallery to the public to view the Animal Life, Art from the Kalevala exhibit. The artwork included in the exhibit features forty different artists using mediums like pencil drawings, paints, pastels, mixed media, copper etching, sculptures, fireworks, and more. Arts Center Curator Cynthia Cote says animals play a rich and mystical role in telling the stories of the Kalevala, and provide countless ways artists can represent Finland’s national epic. The Art from the Kalevala exhibit will open on Saturday at 2 pm for the reception. The public can view the gallery after the opening this weekend until the end of February. The Copper Country Community Arts Center is open Tuesday through Friday 11 am to 6 pm, and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm. The CCCAC is located at 126 Quincy Street.
