High School
In hockey Saturday…
- Jeffers fell 4-2 to Lakes Area United from West Bloomfield. Brogen Turner and Brit Heininen scored. Kasen Helminen made 26 saves, as the Jets suffered just their third loss of the season.
- Calumet opened up a big early lead, and cruised past University Liggett 6-3. Nathan Londo, Brady Boberg, Kobe Solmonson and Brendan Boberg all scored in the first 11 minutes. Solmonson added a second goal in the third period, and Erik Loukus closed out the scoring. Oskar Loukus had two assists. Beau Jukuri made 18 saves.

- Houghton entertains University Liggett. Coverage will begin at 12:40 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.

College Hockey
Ryan Manzella stopped all 22 shots he faced, as the Michigan Tech hockey team blanked Northern Michigan 4-0 Saturday, and completed a weekend sweep of the Wildcats. The Huskies got goals from Elias Jansson, Logan Morrell, Max Koskipirtti and Ryder Matter. Ryan Ouellette stopped 26 shots for the Wildcats.
College Basketball
The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team fell 75-49 at Ferris State Saturday. The Huskies trailed by just five points at halftime, but were outscored 42-21 in the second half. Janie Tormanen led Tech with 10 points.
Marcus Tomashek poured in a career-best 45 points, as the MTU men’s team upset the eighth-ranked Bulldogs 88-85 in overtime.
The Northern Michigan women’s team pounded Lake Superior State 75-37 Saturday. The Wildcats took control with a 30-0 scoring run, which included holding the Lakers scoreless in the second period. Sydney Whitehouse led a balanced NMU attack with 16 points, and Alyssa Hill added 15.
The NMU men’s team never led, and dropped a 79-49 decision to the 14th-ranked Lakers. Sam Privet scored 13 points.
Great Lakes Hockey League
The Calumet Wolverines fell 4-3 in overtime to Fox Cities Friday, then dropped an 11-2 decision at Fond du Lac Saturday.
NHL
Cam Talbot made 28 saves, and the Red Wings shut down the Lightning 2-0 Saturday night. Marco Kasper scored midway through the second period, and Michael Rasmussen added a late empty-netter.
Rasmussen took a stick to the ankles as he made the goal, crashed into the net, and had to be assisted off the ice. Early word is that he’ll be okay.
The Wings host the Kings Monday. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons lost to the Magic 121-113 Saturday. Cade Cunningham had 35 points and 11 assists.
The Pistons visit the Cavaliers Monday.
NFL
In today’s NFL conference championships…
- The Eagles host the Commanders at 3:00.
- The Chiefs entertain the Bills at 6:30.
Both games will be broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
The Lions have apparently found their new defensive coordinator in-house. Multiple reports say that Kelvin Sheppard will take over for the departed Aaron Glenn, who has been named head coach of the Jets. Sheppard has served as Detroit’s linebackers coach.
