Gibson Cup
The Gibson Cup will stay with the Portage Lake Pioneers, after they defeated the Calumet Wolverines 7-0 last night. The Pios sweep the best-of-three series, and close out an historic season in which they won the Magnussen Cup as regular-season Great Lakes Hockey League champions, the Kohlman Cup as GLHL tournament champions, and the Gibson Cup for the third straight time.
NHL
The Red Wings gained a little ground in the NHL playoff race last night with a 5-3 victory over the Hurricanes. Ben Chiarot, Marco Kasper, Patrick Kane and Michael Rasmussen scored, and Alex DeBrincat sealed the win with a last-second empty-netter. Cam Talbot made 30 saves.
Kane’s goal was his 20th, and he now has 17 NHL seasons with 20 goals or more – the most in league history.
The Wings trail the Canadiens for the final Eastern Conference Wild Card playoff berth by four standings points with seven games remaining. They would also have to climb past the Rangers and Blue Jackets to reach the post-season.

NBA
The Pistons dumped the Raptors 117-105 last evening. Playing without Cade Cunningham, who is nursing a thigh injury, and Isaiah Stewart, who served the final game of his suspension, Tim Hardaway, Jr. led Detroit with 23 points. Jalen Duren scored 21, and grabbed 18 rebounds. Malik Beasley also netted 21 points.

The Bucks visit the Heat tonight.
MLB
The Tigers celebrated their home opener with a 7-4 victory over the White Sox yesterday. Kerry Carpenter hit two home runs. Riley Greene had three hits, including a homer. Jack Flaherty pitched into the sixth inning, gave up one run, and struck out seven. The remaining three Chicago runs came off Kenta Maeda in the eighth.
The Tigers host the White Sox again this afternoon. Reese Olson will start against Davis Martin. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers held off the Reds 3-2 last evening. Tyler Alexander pitched into the sixth, and allowed no hits. Brice Turang homered
The Brewers continue that home set against the Reds tonight. Elvin Rodriguez will pitch against Brady Singer.
