The Red Wings kept their flickering playoff hopes alive with a 2-1 victory over the Panthers yesterday. Alex DeBrincat and J.T. Compher scored for Detroit, and Cam Talbot made 32 saves. With six regular-season games remaining, The Wings are tied with the Islanders, six standing points behind the Canadiens, who hold the final Eastern Conference wild card position.

NBA
The Pistons entertain the Kings tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks pulled out a 111-107 victory over the Pelicans last evening. Playing without, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Gary Trent stepped up with 29 points. Brook Lopez had 20 points and 12 rebounds.
The Bucks host the Timberwolves tomorrow night.
MLB
The Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, and claimed a 4-3 comeback win over the White Sox yesterday. Andy Ibáñez drew a bases-loaded walk to start the rally, and Spencer Torkelson’s two-run double clinched the victory. Jackson Jobe gave up all three Chicago runs over five innings.
The Tigers open a home series against the Yankees today. All three games in the series were supposed to be night games, but, because of predicted cold weather, all have been moved up to afternoons. Casey Mize will start against Carlos Rodón. Coverage will begin at 2:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers thumped the Reds 8-2 yesterday. Jackson Chourio hit two home runs. Rookie starter Chad Patrick pitched into the sixth inning, and gave up a run on two hits.
The Brewers have today off, and open a series at Colorado tomorrow night. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Kyle Freeland.
Yet another Milwaukee pitcher has been sidelined. Nestor Cortes was added to the injury list yesterday because of a sore elbow.
Ice Skating
The drive to purchase new ice making equipment for the George Gipp Arena got a big boost over the weekend, when Andy Storm donated $75,000 toward the effort. To honor the donation, the warming area at the rink will be renamed the Al Ayotte Warming Area, in honor of Ayotte’s many contributions to numerous sports in the Copper Country over many years.
