High School
The Hancock High School volleyball team will face Atlanta in a state tournament quarterfinal game tonight at 7:00 in Manistique. The Bulldogs bring an overall record of 24-6-2 into the match. The Huskies are 36-4-1. The winner will advance to a semifinal contest Thursday in Battle Creek, against either Ubly or Clarkston Everest Collegiate.
Bulldogs fans are invited to stop by the school at 9:30 this morning, to wish the team well as they head out.
There will be no cash ticket purchase option at the door tonight. Tickets must be purchased online here.
The Jeffers hockey team will skate at Negaunee tonight at 6:00.
College Football
The Michigan Tech football team’s comeback victory over Saginaw Valley State Saturday earned individual Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference awards for two Huskies. Quarterback Alex Fries was named Offensive Player of the Week, and kicker Avery Kucharski Special Teams Player of the Week.
College Volleyball
Two MTU volleyball players also earned GLIAC honors, following the Huskies’ victories over Lake Superior State and Saginaw Valley. Tess Hayes was named Setter of the Week, and libero Amelia Albers Defensive Player of the Week.
NHL
Macklin Celebrini’s goal 46 seconds into overtime handed the Red Wings a 5-4 loss to the Sharks last night. Detroit got early goals from Dylan Larkin, Marco Kasper and Michael Rasmussen. Alex De Brincat tied the game early in the third period. Cam Talbot made 29 saves, and took the loss in net.
The Wings have dropped five of their last six games, and entertain the Islanders Thursday. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, coverage will start at 6:45 on KBear 102.3.
NBA
The Pistons fell to the Bulls 122-112 last night. Cade Cunningham had 26 points and 10 assists. Jalen Duren celebrated his 21st birthday by collecting 22 rebounds.
The Pistons visit the Hornets Thursday.
MLB
The Brewers have reportedly signed a minor league deal with starting pitcher Deivi García. García was once a top prospect with the Yankees. He struggled last year with the White Sox, but is still just 25 years old.
NFL
In last night’s contest, the Texans humbled the Cowboys 34-10.
